Client: Airfield Trust

Airfield is a 14 hectare (35 acre) estate which has been open to the public since 1998. The primary objective was to provide an environment which reconnects people and nature through the farm and garden. Airfield has a mixture of pastureland, woodland and walled gardens into which a patchwork of buildings was introduced as land was acquired and disposed of over a protracted period starting in 1843 and continuing to the present day.
Airfield’s aim is to nurture a respect and awareness of the natural environment. Their vision is to enhance the visitor experience, improve accessibility and extend the experience to all ages and communities, upgrade the facilities and protect the history of Airfield House and gardens.
Following the preparation of a master plan, the Airfield Trust engaged WK Nowlan & Associates (WKN) to:

  • Advise and develop a design brief
  • Assemble a multi-disciplined design team to further develop the master plan concept and prepare a detailed planning submission
  • Manage the design team and advise the client throughout the process
  • Advise on all Estate strategy and operational aspects
  • Liaise with the Local Authority
